So I’ve been diving into some of the Open Source AI models out there. Geez there are a lot.
They are like free versions of ChatGPT that usually do one job particularly well.
One of the tools I’ve been looking for is a good background removal tool that doesn’t force me to pay mega bucks.
I’ve found one on Hugging Face that doesn’t suck!
Hugging Face is a site that lists Open Source AI’s for you to try.
(And yes, ‘Hugging Face’ is quite the silly name – I don’t get it).
Often the amount you can use them is low and they are not the fastest thing out there but for a few items they are really good. And by fast I mean it can take 20s to remove a background.

Background Removers always get into trouble with the fence, Sunny’s ears and the fact the sky is very white in this shot.
But the one I tried on Hugging face did the best job ever – and much better than the paid service.

I think sometimes it wants you to create a free account. I have thrown a few dollars hugging face’s way to get a few more tokens. Not very expensive by the way.
